Richards Bay Faces Tough Times Ahead.
According to sources, midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has been suspended by the club, effective immediately.
This suspension follows an incident after their recent loss to SuperSport United at King Zwelithini Stadium last Friday.
Although Sithebe did not play in the match, he was present with other players. His comments in the locker room after the game were not well received by the club, resulting in his suspension.
“Sithebe has been suspended, and we are currently handling the situation,” said Sithebe’s agent, Musa Sithebe, in a statement to Sportswire.
“This is in relation to some remarks he made during the team discussion following the SuperSport match.
“An argument broke out in the locker room, which the coaching staff deemed disrespectful.
“We are investigating this matter, and I am in the process of collecting information from those present to fully understand what occurred.”
From the stands, Sithebe watched as Richards Bay suffered a disappointing defeat against SuperSport. In the 36th minute, Ronnie Gabriel’s team was awarded a penalty, but Nkosikhona Ndaba’s shot was saved by Thakasani Mbanjwa.
Despite the loss, club chairman Sifisi Biyela expressed pride in the team’s performance on that day. SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt even noted that his team was fortunate to secure a victory.
Sithebe joined Richards Bay during the off-season after his departure from Kaizer Chiefs. In his eight appearances this season, he has not yet recorded a goal or assist.
The timing of Sithebe’s suspension is crucial for Richards Bay, who are fighting to avoid relegation. The club is currently on a five-match losing streak across all competitions, sitting at the bottom of the table with only five points from ten games.
This weekend, Richards Bay will face Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday at 15:30.
