Pirates Say Goodbye to Two Players

Orlando Pirates has declared a mutual agreement to part ways with Sandile Mthethwa, while Katlego Otladiso is poised to join Sekhukhune United on loan for the entirety of the 2024/25 season.

Both players have yet to make an appearance this season, with Mthethwa only being on the bench during the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

With competitors like Thabiso Sesane, Tapelo Xoki, Nkosinathi Sibisi, and Olisa Ndah, it was difficult for the KwaZulu-Natal-born defender to find playing opportunities.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm the departure of defender Sandile Mthethwa,” the club announced on Friday.

“Both parties have reached an amicable agreement to part ways, enabling him to seek opportunities at a club of his preference. At the age of 27, Mthethwa is at a pivotal moment in his career, and while the technical team hoped he would remain, consistent playing time was not assured.

“He successfully captained the inaugural Project X Tour in the UK and led the MultiChoice Diski Challenge squad before advancing to the first team, where he recorded more than 20 official appearances for the club.

“His professionalism and discipline will be warmly remembered. We wish him nothing but the best as he begins this new phase of his career.”

Mthethwa will particularly be remembered for netting the crucial goal in the Nedbank Cup semi-final against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium, propelling Pirates to success in the tournament.

Otladiso joined Pirates at the start of last season from Marumo Gallants but encountered challenges in recapturing his form at the club.

“Furthermore, the Club has confirmed an agreement has been established with Sekhukhune United for Katlego Otladiso’s services,” Orlando Pirates stated.

“The 28-year-old is set to transfer to Babina Noko on a loan agreement for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.”
