Constitution Hill, who previously dominated the scene before encountering a setback before the Cheltenham Festival, is expected to make his seasonal return.
Significant uncertainties remain about the strength of Henderson’s star performer upon his comeback.
He faces a tough competitor in the exceptional Lossiemouth, who has showcased impressive form by making Teahupoo seem ordinary during his effortless victory in the Hatton’s Grace.
In a discussion with Matt Chapman on At The Races’ Unbridled podcast, Ricci suggested that Lossiemouth is likely to miss Leopardstown, where State Man is scheduled to compete.
Ricci described it as paying the ‘Willie tax,’ referring to the trainer’s strategy of earmarking specific races for particular horses.
He mentioned: “State Man excels at Leopardstown; it’s his track, he’s unbeaten there, and our only defeat occurred there during the Dublin Racing Festival.
“We’re considering the Leopardstown route for the Dublin Racing Festival; last year we opted for the International (at Cheltenham), but she would incur a tougher penalty this year.
“We’re likely leaning towards the Christmas Hurdle, yet we are also exploring other possibilities.
“There’s the option of the race on New Year’s Day, a race Annie Power won at Cheltenham.
Rich Ricci recalls his favorite Cheltenham Festival moment ever
“She will definitely race somewhere over Christmas, but for now, he’s favoring the Christmas Hurdle.
“I believe his position is that you’re the Champion Hurdle favorite, and participation in the Christmas Hurdle is essential, but we’ll assess her readiness as the date approaches.”
Coral currently has Lossiemouth at 4-6 to defeat Constitution Hill in a match bet and potentially hand him his first loss.
In contrast, Henderson’s runner is positioned at 11-10 to conquer the notable grey.
