Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngithi has addressed the persistent speculation surrounding a coaching offer from Kaizer Chiefs while indicating his readiness for future prospects.
This Tuesday, Sundowns officially confirmed Mngqithi’s exit, a mere four months into his role as head coach at the age of 53.
In an interview on Robert Marawa’s radio show on Wednesday night, the ex-Golden Arrows boss spoke about various aspects of his time at Sundowns and the reasons behind his departure.
After dedicating 12 years to the Brazilians’ technical team and experiencing numerous coaching changes, Mngqithi often faced rumors linking him to Kaizer Chiefs, who were contending with their own coaching issues during that period.
“I never engaged in any talks with Kaizer Chiefs; some claim I wasn’t keen on the role, but that isn’t true. There was nothing concrete presented to me, just rumors that led nowhere. No formal contact was made,” Mngqithi explained.
After spending more than a decade with the same club, one might assume the coach would think about a pause from the intense coaching scene. However, the KwaZulu-Natal-born tactician remains receptive to any appealing offers that might come his way.
He also conveyed his openness to returning to his previous club, Golden Arrows, should they seek his guidance following Mabhuti Khenyeza’s exit.
“We are willing to consider any club that approaches us and evaluate their propositions,” the 53-year-old remarked.
In addition to Arrows, nearby competitors Richards Bay are another PSL club currently in need of a head coach and could be looking to extend an offer to the newly available manager.
