Manqoba Mngqithi has shared his feelings regarding his unexpected dismissal from Mamelodi Sundowns.
On Tuesday, Sundowns announced they had mutually agreed to part ways with Mngqithi, citing disappointing results as the reason for this decision.
OPINION: Sundowns seems to be heading towards self-destruction
During the same press conference attended by club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe and technical director Berg Flemming, Sundowns also revealed the appointment of Miguel Cardoso as their new head coach.
In an interview with Robert Marawa on 947 FM, Mngqithi expressed his fondness for his time at the Brazilians and his gratitude towards the club for their support over the years.
“Throughout my coaching career, I’ve experienced this cycle of being a head coach, entering and exiting roles, but I’m thankful for what Sundowns has provided me over the years,” Mngqithi stated.
“I refuse to let negativity overshadow the end of our relationship since my time at Sundowns has spanned many years. I’ve had a wonderful experience, won numerous trophies, and cherished every moment with various coaches,” he added.
Mngqithi reflected on his pride in the accomplishments he achieved during his decade-long tenure at Sundowns.
“Even now, I had an exceptional technical team, and I believe they gave their utmost. I sit here feeling proud. I know I did my best and won’t dwell on ‘maybe I should’ve, I could’ve’ moments.”
“The losses, particularly in cup matches, linger, but I believe the Stellenbosch games were a low point for my performance during my early days,” Mngqithi remarked.
“However, from that point onward, we approached every match with our best efforts, and even in those we didn’t win, I feel we deserved victories by good margins,” he continued.
“The most recent match was among the toughest this season, and many overlook the quality of the opposing team, but I believe we will be surprised if we underestimate ASFAR in the Champions League,” he added.
As reported previously by Phakaaathi, Mngqithi may soon be appointed as the new head coach of Golden Arrows this week.
