Ryan Reynolds’ Incredible Impact on Wrexham’s Tourism Revenue Revealed Four Years After He Acquired the Football Club

Film star Ryan Reynolds has played an essential role in boosting Wrexham’s tourism revenue threefold since he and his business partner acquired the football team four years ago.

In the previous year, the Welsh city attracted two million visitors, showing a 21 percent rise, who collectively spent around £179 million, supporting 1,758 jobs in the hospitality industry.

The tourism revenue was £49 million in 2020, the year that the Deadpool actor Ryan (48) and his partner Rob McElhenney (47) became involved with the club.

Their Welcome to Wrexham Disney+ documentary has been acknowledged for playing a key role in this growth, featuring the team’s consecutive promotions from the National League to League One.

Joe Bickerton, the destination manager for Wrexham County Borough Council, remarked: “The Welcome to Wrexham documentary has generated a lot of enthusiasm, and the city has warmly welcomed visitors.”

He added: “Visitors may come due to what they viewed in the documentary or out of a desire to learn more about Wrexham.”

Current statistics show that Wrexham’s tourism income is around £90 million higher than it was in 2012.

Joe stated: “Last year, we stood out as the leading local authority in Wales for visitor growth. A 21% increase is quite rare; typically, we see growth rates around 5 to 6 percent.”

The city is also introducing Wrexham Lager in the United States.

Reynolds and fellow comedian Rob have become co-owners of the Wrexham Lager brewery, with plans to distribute cans of the beer across 29 states.

They aspire for this historic 140-year-old beverage to achieve greater success than its unfortunate debut as the only lager on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic.

The duo has also shared plans for a new stadium with a capacity of 55,000, which would surpass Manchester City’s stadium, and have been commended for their investments not only in the football club but also in the local community.
