Millie Bright Strives for Unbeaten Chelsea to Maintain Their ‘Monster Mentality’

MILLIE BRIGHT emphasizes the need for Chelsea to maintain their “monster mentality” as they stand unbeaten at the top of the WSL this season.

She fondly reminisces about the match against Barcelona in the 2021 Champions League final, even though her team faced a 4-0 defeat that day.

Tomorrow at 8:00pm, the team captain and her colleagues will take on FC Twente at Stamford Bridge, aiming to secure the top position in Group B.

Even though they have already secured their place in the knockout stage of the tournament, Chelsea is eager to extend their winning streak to 14 matches across both Europe and the WSL this season.

For Bright, 31, the pursuit of maintaining an unbeaten streak has been ever-present in her mind.

The center-back, who signed with the Blues a decade ago today, is determined to leave a legacy that embodies the team’s “winning DNA.”

Bright, whose side is still unbeaten this season, stated, “I want my legacy to be defined by winning.

“Since day one, I have always said that, right from lifting that first trophy.

“I want Chelsea to maintain that winning DNA and monster mentality.

“I often joke about being a surprise signing. No one expected my arrival, and doubts were plenty.

“I hope everyone can look at that and see that with the right mentality, attitude, and effort, anyone can succeed in any environment.”

Since moving to Chelsea from a Doncaster Rovers Belles squad that fell out of the league in 2013, Bright has achieved seven WSL titles, four FA Cups, and two Women’s League Cups.

A major trophy that has eluded her so far is the Women’s Champions League.

Bright is optimistic that her tenth season with Chelsea might finally yield this title.

She commented, “Competing in that Champions League final against Barcelona three years ago is a moment I treasure, as I hope to return to a final again.

“I have no regrets about the outcome. I learned so much from that experience.

“The whole team understands that this is the trophy we are reaching for.

“It’s something we’ve pursued for a long time, and our mindset remains steadfast.

“That is our ultimate goal.”
