RONNIE O’SULLIVAN has pulled out of the Scottish Open.
The seven-time world champion was set to face Xing Zihao from China in the opening round in Edinburgh.
Xing will progress to the second round without playing.
O’Sullivan’s decision to withdraw comes just a day before his scheduled match.
He has not played since being eliminated in the first round of the UK Championship by Barry Hawkins, who made it to the final.
The Rocket appeared frustrated during that match, as he hit the table, but praised his opponent after the defeat.
He remarked: “Barry played exceptionally and earned his victory; all the credit goes to him.
“He performed well, was consistent, and took advantage of his chances.
“I’m just enjoying the game – that’s what truly matters. I try not to ruminate over past events and concentrate on the next competition.”
At 48, O’Sullivan may be looking to save his energy for the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship, scheduled from December 18-20.
