Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC lost their lead, facing a 2-1 defeat against the Algerian team CS Constantine during their second CAF Confederations Cup encounter at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui on Sunday.
The Tanzanian side took the lead in the 24th minute with a goal from defender Hussein Mohamed. They seemed poised to claim all three points, but a momentary lapse in focus in the second half proved detrimental. Early in the second half, Constantine applied pressure to the visitors’ defense, resulting in an unintentional goal by Abdulrazack Hamza in the 46th minute.
As the home team gained confidence, they struck again just four minutes later, with Brahim Dib capitalizing on Simba’s defensive mistakes to secure the critical three points. This defeat saw Davids’ team drop to third place in Group A, following their earlier victory of 1-0 over Angolan newcomers Bravos Do Maquis on the first matchday.
Meanwhile, the Algerian club, who began their campaign with a 1-0 away win against CS Sfaxien, maintained their lead at the top of the table with six points, three goals scored, one conceded, and one clean sheet. In another match in Group A, Bravos Do Maquis stunned the three-time CAF Confederations Cup champions Sfaxien with a 3-2 victory at home, relegating Sfaxien to the bottom of the standings.
As the pressure increases, Simba, in their quest for a first continental title, will take on a determined CS Sfaxien at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on December 14, while the leaders, Constantine, will head to face Bravos on the same day.
