DAN ASHWORTH was allegedly “frogmarched” out through a hidden exit at Old Trafford after finalizing his departure from Manchester United.
The sporting director’s time at the club has come to an end just five months after he assumed the position, as reported in an article.
Manchester United made a considerable effort to bring him on board during the summer, paying Newcastle £3 million.
After pivotal discussions with CEO Omar Berrada following the 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest last night, Ashworth resigned by mutual consent.
As per Manchester Evening News, he was spotted looking “grim-faced” as he passed through the press room yesterday.
He was “ escorted” from the premises via an “alternative exit” by security personnel and United’s chief operating officer Collette Roche.
Ashworth did not leave through the standard directors’ entrance or Stretford End tunnel.
Journalist Samuel Luckhurst commented on social media: “In hindsight, perhaps he was frogmarched out.”
Ashworth and other senior officials were responsible for giving Erik ten Hag a new contract, only to dismiss him 14 games later.
They were also involved in the transfer dealings that resulted in the club spending £200 million on players such as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui.

The 53-year-old director previously stated that he “liked” the squad at the beginning of the season.
However, SunSport exclusively reported last month that the summer spending frenzy and Ten Hag’s underperformance led to a blame game in the boardroom.
Crystal Palace chief Dougie Freedman is currently the leading candidate to replace Ashworth, having been linked with the role before.
