Durban City Overtakes Milford as Spurs’ Winless Streak Continues

Durban City has ascended to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings after a resounding 3-0 victory over Leruma United, which saw Samkelo Maseko scoring twice and Saziso Magawana adding another at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Conversely, Milford FC dropped to fourth place following a 1-1 stalemate against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, which allowed promotion-chasing Lidoda Duvha to hold onto fifth place.

The two teams from KwaZulu-Natal are gearing up for a significant top-of-the-table clash on Sunday, 14 December, as the competition for the second-tier title heats up. JDR Stars swiftly moved into second place after clinching a narrow 1-0 win against Hungry Lions at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

In mid-table developments, newly promoted Kruger United extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 3-1 away triumph over Upington City, moving up three spots to seventh, while Upington fell to 11th after enduring a seven-match winless streak.

Meanwhile, the University of Pretoria encountered a setback in their promotion ambitions, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, leaving them eight points adrift of the leaders. At the bottom of the league, Venda FC continues to struggle, staying in last place as they battle to avoid relegation.

The Vhembe-based team endured a 4-2 loss against Baroka FC at Global Stadium. Pretoria Callies’ hopes for a late comeback were dashed by Lethabo Modimoeng, who restored Orbit College’s lead in stoppage time, sealing a 3-2 win at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving Callies in 13th place with 13 points.

Struggling to recover from their top-division relegation, Cape Town Spurs’ woes continued as they have failed to win a league match in their last nine encounters, with their latest disappointment being a 1-0 defeat to newcomers Highbury FC.

The Urban Warriors find themselves precariously positioned in 14th place, tied on 10 points with 15th-placed Leruma, and just ahead of Venda FC, as they prepare for a looming relegation battle against Callies in their upcoming match on Friday, 13 December.
