Riveiro Seeks to Beat Al Ahly

Jose Riveiro, head coach of Orlando Pirates, highlighted the significance of a strong home opener in this season’s Champions League as they pursue the title.

The Pirates successfully secured a win in their opening Champions League group stage match, achieving a 2-1 victory against the formidable Algerian team CR Belouizdad last week.

Next on the agenda for the Buccaneers is a face-off against the reigning African champions Al Ahly this Saturday in the second matchday of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly overcame Stade d’Abidjan with a score of 4-2 in their initial match.

Riveiro, the Spanish coach, emphasized the necessity of performing well in home fixtures as they aim to maintain competitiveness in the Champions League this season, pointing out that strong fan support can make anything possible.

“Our objective is to start our home matches on a high note; we aim to compete strongly and ensure we have a significant crowd backing us throughout the season, particularly during this tournament, while playing in Orlando,” Riveiro stated on Friday.

“It’s not merely about the weather; it’s about the trust our fans have in us. This Saturday, their presence will be crucial as they want nothing more than to see our team secure a win. That gives us an advantage, and we undeniably have passionate supporters rallying behind us.”

“The fans must rally with us for this match, as we anticipate a tough 90 minutes ahead; their steadfast support is essential.”

As it stands, Riveiro’s team is currently in second place in Group C, trailing the Red Devils, who are leading with three points. The two teams are divided by goal difference, and Saturday’s victor will take the top spot in the group.
