RUBEN SELLES has left Reading to take the helm at Hull City, marking another chapter in his rapid two-year managerial career that began during his tenure at Southampton.
Championship strugglers Hull have brought on the Spaniard just a week after the removal of Tim Walter, the former boss from Hamburg.
At 41 years old, Selles has successfully guided Reading into contention for the League One play-offs.
The club has now granted him a two-and-a-half-year contract for the head coach position.
Selles made his way from being an assistant at FC Copenhagen to his first role in English football in June 2022.
Southampton brought him on as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s assistant in the Premier League.
When Hasenhuttl was let go, Selles stepped up as caretaker less than six months later.
Nathan Jones, who followed as the permanent manager for the Saints, had a brief stint from November 2022 to February 2023.
Selles again served as interim manager for the rest of that season.
Despite his efforts, he could not prevent Southampton’s relegation, and his contract was not renewed, with current manager Russell Martin taking over in June 2023.

Selles took the reins at Reading in the same month and has now progressed back to a higher division with Hull.
He expressed his excitement on Hull’s website: “I am really happy. When the chance to join here arose, my attention was completely on Hull City.

“I am familiar with the team, the club, its history, and I’m eager to start this new journey together.
“I see a lot of similarities in our technical staff’s vision for the present and future, which played a role in my decision to come on board.”
Andy Dawson will still act as caretaker for the home game against Blackburn this Saturday, while Selles will step in for the match against Watford next Wednesday.
This will mean he has managed in all three top divisions within just two years, each with different teams.
Meanwhile, Reading has appointed Under-21s coach Noel Hunt as their new first-team manager on a contract that extends until 2027.
