
Mamelodi Sundowns, a dominant force in South African football, will find out who they will face in the FIFA Club World Cup this Thursday in Miami, as all participating teams have been confirmed.
Botafogo, a Brazilian club, is the most recent team to earn a spot in the 32-team tournament by winning the Copa Libertadores in South America.
After defeating fellow Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro, Botafogo joins the expanded competition as the fourth Brazilian club.
The first FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025. This esteemed tournament will bring together the top clubs from six international confederations: AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC, and UEFA.
From Africa’s standpoint, Sundowns will compete alongside Al Ahly, Esperance, and Wydad Casablanca in the tournament, as outlined by CAF’s qualification standards.

Tournament Format:
- Group Stage: Eight groups of four teams, competing in a single-round robin format.
- Knockout Stage: The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16.
- Single-Match Elimination: From the round of 16 through to the final.
- No Third-Place Playoff.
The tournament will be hosted at 12 venues across the United States, with the final taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and the opening match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
