Iconic Sports Tournament Under Fire for Logo That Resembles a Mars Bar Ad

Fans have mocked the recently updated Six Nations logo, comparing it to a “Mars bar advertisement.”

The prestigious tournament has moved away from its former design, which featured a rugby ball and the colors of the six participating nations, in favor of a bold new logo.

The new logo features a red rugby ball adorned with the text “M6N” in orange.

Guinness and its iconic harp still hold a prominent position at the top as the main sponsors.

Six Nations officials have made this change to create consistency between the men’s competition and the women’s as well as Under-20 events.

The logos for the women’s and Under-20 events use “W6N” and “U6N” in the same typography.

Nonetheless, fans are largely opposed to the rebranding, critiquing it for lacking any recognizable identity.

Many have humorously stated, “I thought this was an ad for Mars bars,” in light of the background’s color scheme.

Another commenter said, “It resembles a design pitch for Mars bars.”

A further critic remarked, “Did a nine-year-old win a design contest for this?”

Other fans expressed their distaste, claiming, “This is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.”

The Six Nations asserted that their decision to update the logo was based on “extensive research and discussions with fans,” aiming to create “a cohesive and adaptable brand family.”

The organization elaborated: “Our goal is to blend our rich heritage with modern gameplay, conveyed through a unique and eye-catching new brand that resonates with everyone from new and existing fans to the involved players and unions in this prestigious Championship.

“Six Nations Rugby has crafted a brand identity that pays homage to the legacy of its Men’s Championship while its vibrant visual designs reflect modern gameplay and the sentiments of fans regarding the sport.

“This modern brand is distinguished by its unique orange color scheme, capturing the excitement fans feel as they come together at winter’s end to enjoy the Six Nations.”
