TOTTENHAM is considering Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a possible emergency acquisition in the coming months.
At 24 years old, Patterson fits the bill for Spurs, who are searching for a backup for the sidelined Guglielmo Vicario — ideally someone willing to take on a reserve role.
The prominent Black Cats goalkeeper is eager to make the jump to the top division, although it might have to be as a backup option.
Sunderland is not likely to let Patterson go easily as they chase promotion to the Premier League, yet they typically part with players at a reasonable price, which means Tottenham could land a deal.
Spurs have also shown interest in James Trafford of Burnley, but signing the England Under-21 goalkeeper would require a significant monetary investment.
Furthermore, they are eyeing Ivorian goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from French side Angers.
Patterson secured his position as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2021-2022 season.
He has since made 137 appearances for the club.
Last year, Patterson earned his England U21 cap as a substitute during a 2-0 defeat to Japan at St George’s Park.
He is recognized as one of the top goalkeepers outside the Premier League.

Manchester United and Liverpool have previously expressed interest in Patterson.
At the same time, Tottenham and Aston Villa find themselves in competition for young Reims midfielder Valentin Atangana.
