
Ian Redpath, the celebrated Australian cricket legend, has sadly passed away at the age of 83.
He succumbed to a short illness on Sunday.
A legendary figure in the cricketing world, Redpath played for Australia in 66 Test matches, securing eight centuries in his career spanning from 1964 to 1976.
He ended his international career with an impressive batting average of 43.45 across those 66 matches.
His standout performance was a remarkable 171 runs, scored against England in 1970.
Originally from Victoria, the batsman was fondly nicknamed ‘Redders’ and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023.
Tributes have begun to emerge for this cricketing great.
The Cricket Australia account on X remarked: “Farewell to a titan of Australian cricket.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Hall of Famer and Test batsman Ian Redpath, who has departed at the age of 83.”
Former Australian cricket star Damien Fleming also paid his respects on X.
He commented: “Rest In Peace Redders. He was an outstanding cricketer and an even more wonderful person.
“He motivated and guided many of us at South Melbourne and Geelong cricket clubs.
“Loved by all with whom he played or coached for Victoria and Australia.
“And once again, I apologize for letting you down on the golf course. My condolences to the Redpath family.”
Redpath concluded his career holding the record for the most runs scored in a single over (32) by an Australian in first-class cricket.
