Match Preview: Liverpool vs Man City

Will Arne Slot’s Liverpool deepen the troubles of the reigning Premier League champions?

On paper, this seems highly probable.

The Reds currently sit atop the Premier League table, enjoying an impressive eight-point advantage over their closest competitors and having only dropped five points this entire season.

In addition, they lead the Champions League standings, being the only team to have secured maximum points after defeating Carlo Ancelotti’s defending champions, Real Madrid.

Under Slot’s management, Liverpool has achieved 17 wins out of 19 competitive encounters, scoring 44 goals and keeping ten clean sheets.

They boast the lowest expected goals conceded (xGC) in the Premier League (10.75) and rank behind only two teams in terms of expected goals (xG).

These attributes position them favorably going into their bout against a Manchester City team described as “fragile” by their manager, Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola referred to City as “weak” and “frail” after their shocking 3-0 lead evaporated against Feyenoord at the Etihad during Champions League play.

Currently, Manchester City is struggling, without a win in their last six matches, having lost five and conceded two or more goals in each of those encounters—an unprecedented situation since May 1963.

They haven’t kept a clean sheet since October 26 and have allowed 17 goals in their last matches, failing to score more than once in their past four away games.

Guardiola has only one win in nine visits to Anfield, which includes five losses and three draws.

Betting Insights and Predictions for Liverpool vs Man City

Anticipating Dominance

The conditions seem ideal for Liverpool to secure a decisive victory this Sunday.

Confidence in Manchester City is at a record low, having suffered five losses in six matches against teams including Bournemouth, Brighton, and Sporting Lisbon.

Only Leicester and Aston Villa have let in more goals than City’s eight in their last four Premier League outings, and they have conceded 10 in their recent four away fixtures.

Super Salah

There’s no need to second-guess this weekend’s match; I’m placing my faith in the prolific Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian star seems determined, possibly motivated by ongoing contract negotiations. He has scored 12 goals in 19 matches this season and has found the net in each of his last five Premier League appearances.

Salah has an impressive record against the Cityzens, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 21 outings. His goal involvements against any opponent are only outdone by his performances against Manchester United.
