Lampard is scheduled to address the press later today.

The 46-year-old last worked as a manager in June 2023, when he was interim boss at Chelsea for two months.

I played alongside Frank Lampard at Chelsea and we never lost… but I’d still prefer to play alongside Steven Gerrard.

During his 11-game tenure, Lampard could only manage to secure a single victory for the Blues.

This ineffective interim period followed his season-and-a-half tenure at his former club from 2019 to 2021, where he achieved a top-four finish in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final.

The former England international also managed Everton between 2022 and 2023, where he helped keep the Toffees in the Premier League.

His managerial journey began in the Championship with Derby County, where he narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight before earning his first position at Chelsea.

Lampard’s inaugural match will be on Saturday as Coventry faces Cardiff City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Fans have welcomed him to the club online, expressing their support for the Premier League legend already.

One fan shared: “Time to rally behind him now. Super Frank’s Sky Blue Army.”

Another commented: “He’s always been superior to Gerrard.”

A different fan stated: “Finally! Let’s go!”

A fourth welcomed him with: “Welcome Frank! Time to move forward and create a new chapter.”

Fan Perspective: Lampard’s appointment is disappointing for Coventry supporters

By Alex Johnson

Filling the shoes of a club icon like Mark Robins, a manager who has created countless cherished moments for Sky Blues supporters, was always going to be challenging. However, the arrival of Frank Lampard has not been well received among Coventry fans.

In his Q&A session with fans following Robins’ departure, owner Doug King emphasized his goal of hiring a tactically astute head coach to maximize the potential of what is the most expensively assembled squad in Coventry City’s history.

Ending up with Lampard, whose former assistant Jody Morris has been credited for much of his success at Derby County, feels like a disappointment. This is not a coach known for winning league titles or for possessing a flair for attractive football.

Adding to the skepticism are the reports of King’s “connections” to the Redknapp family – with Harry being Lampard’s uncle – raising questions about whether there was a genuine search for the best head coach available in the first place. King has faced scrutiny from fans this month and has more tough questions to answer.

Coventry fans will likely support Lampard and grant him an opportunity. However, to imply that he represents an upgrade over Mark Robins, given his one playoff finish and 9.1% win rate in his last role, seems far-fetched.
